My engagement with life rises and falls with my inspiration. My mind swings between the lush, generative oasis of creativity and the barren desert of despair. The only reliable well to rescue me from this desert is inspiration. The only way I find inspiration is through creativity. The longer I go without creating, without being in a space that is alive with curiosity and wonder, the deeper I sink.
What creativity inspires me?
I call it The Wonder Loop. It is a sacred cycle, a living system with seven spokes, a constellation in motion. Inspiration doesn’t live in just one spoke, it pulses through the relationship between them. Mystery invites curiosity, curiosity leads to discovery, discovery evokes wonder, wonder leads to meaning, meaning reorients my sense of significance, leading to relationships with others and the world around me, which then leads back to curiosity. It’s not linear, and it’s never final. Each turn opens something deeper, something more alive.
In photography, I’m drawn to images that touch this loop, images that don’t just show something, but unfold something. Some provoke a question. Others stir quiet reverence or reveal an overlooked detail. Some place us small against something vast. These moments remind me that meaning isn’t constructed from experience. It’s there to be noticed, waiting at the edge of mystery. Photography keeps me seeking that mystery. Every frame is a small offering: a glimpse behind the veil, a pause to wonder, a place where mystery meets meaning.
If there’s a heart where the loop comes fully alive, it’s at the threshold between curiosity and wonder, which is where you find discovery. Curiosity opens the door and wonder rushes in when that door opens wide enough. The relationship of these spokes is fundamental. Curiosity without wonder becomes analytical. Wonder without curiosity drifts. But discovery links the two. It’s like the relationship between a compass, the horizon, and the journey. Curiosity is the compass, giving direction, questions, and keeping you oriented. Wonder is the horizon, drawing you forward with awe and mystery. Discovery is the path, the unfolding terrain between the compass and the horizon. That stillness in the threshold where you find discovery, that feeling that says ‘this means something’, that is where inspiration strikes. Inspiration isn’t a destination, it’s movement. The Wonder Loop is an ecosystem of perception, a sacred interplay where each part calls and answers the others. When the loop is turning, I feel most alive.
At its heart, this is about how I experience and relate to meaning, inspiration, and belonging. It’s a personal mindset and a lived framework for understanding my place in the world. The Wonder Loop becomes the organizing metaphor for how inspiration arises, how I find my way out of creative drought, and how I reconnect with life. It’s an identity statement. I’m saying that “I don’t need to be the center to be meaningful”, “I create not to dominate, but to witness.”, and “Smallness is sacred. Belonging is enough.”
This is the soul of my art and of Pineapple Salsa Photography. A philosophy of wonder, reverence, and relational creativity that dares to believe beauty is most true when it’s real, shared, and honest. The Wonder Loop isn’t just how I make art. It’s how I stay alive. The big picture is that I’m building a life, philosophy, and creative practice around relational wonder. It is a way of seeing that is humble, sacred, and beautifully human.
